Job Summary: The Materials & Devices Life Science Institute is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the daily running of a multidisciplinary research lab at the MDLS EIT (initially starting employment at University of Oxford before moving over to EIT). The role will focus on maintaining and coordinating servicing of core laboratory equipment (including ultra-low temperature freezers, freeze dryers, pumps, centrifuges, electrophysiology recording systems, dishwashers, and HPLC/FPLC/LC-MS) in liaison with our in-house workshops and external engineers. The lab uses a broad range of techniques, including molecular cloning, protein biochemistry, synthetic chemistry, and biophysical measurements. The postholder should be comfortable working in this diverse technical environment, quick to learn new instruments, and proactive in ensuring the smooth running of laboratory activities. The ideal candidate will be practical, well-organised, and responsive, with a strong sense of urgency, excellent communication skills, and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and repair. Hours of work will generally be Monday to Friday, core hours normally 09:00 – 18:00 and will be site based. Key Responsibilities: Ensure that all equipment is properly stored, calibrated, and maintained Assist with equipment setup, basic troubleshooting, and coordinate service contracts and engineer callouts when needed. What To Expect: We are looking for a skilled, motivated Software Engineer to join the Software team. This is the team responsible for creating and maintaining the code base and the software infrastructure needed to operate our quantum computer and test systems and to facilitate their research and development. This entails writing and maintaining code that runs on the embedded platforms that power the laboratory hardware, as well as code for regular server and workstation systems. The team works together with our science teams to enable them to do fast development and experimentation. * Permanent * Newbury, Berkshire * Salary: £45,000 to £55,000 Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Salary: £45,000 to £55,000 Location: Newbury, Berkshire Company: Cleantech with a focus on waste recovery My customer is an established business, with 8 years behind them and now bringing an enhancement of their technology to the market. It is a truly exciting time to join, they have projects in the order book with more to follow, they have been working hard to ensure they have the edge over the competition in the past few years. As it stands they are ready to launch, develop and continue to put the R\&D work into making sure their product stays at the forefront of the market. Your team will rely upon your documentation and enhancements to improve our processes and ensure resiliency. In this role, you'll build up your customer-facing skillset as a consultant in support of the UK Cloud Services Team. We provide learning opportunities in modern technologies such as containerisation and new cryptographic standards. You will earn autonomy to contribute to designs and improvements, to produce automation and work with our partner teams in Canada and the US. You will have opportunities to take the lead in problem triage and resolution. About the Candidate: PKI experience not required, but advantageous. Candidates must have professional experience with Linux OS (or equivalent) and be comfortable working at the command line within secure environments. Customer facing skills are desirable. As a Consultant, you will be starting in a Senior position and some mentoring of colleagues is expected. Hybrid working is available following probationary period. Applicants must have their own transport and be able to attend the Newbury office on a regular basis. Applicants must be permanent UK resident, be able to achieve UKSV SC clearance and have the right to work in the UK. Basic Qualifications and Experience: * (Required) Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems, or equivalent professional experience and education. * (Required) 3 years professional experience/demonstrable proficiency with Linux OS (or equivalent) * (Required) Professional experience with application integration * Business software service monitoring and management experience. * (Required) Must have unrestricted work authorisation for UK. * (Required) Ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance.
