Senior Engineer (Infrastructure/DevSecOps)

Based in our Glasgow office, we are seeking a senior engineer to lead cloud infrastructure automation initiatives on Microsoft Azure. We are looking for an experienced professional with a strong operations background who can serve as a subject matter expert within multi-disciplinary Dev(Sec)Ops teams. *We are open to considering candidates on a part time or full-time basis* **What will your role look like?** In this role, you will architect, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code principles. You will leverage programming languages such as Python and TypeScript, automation tools like Bicep and Ansible, Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines, and Git for version control. Your expertise will span cloud PaaS/IaaS services, Windows and Linux systems, and containerised environments. A key aspect of this position involves enabling engineering teams through knowledge sharing and creating automation solutions that make best practices the default choice, enhancing operational maturity, system reliability, and security posture across the organisation. **Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:** * Architect, implement, and maintain automated, resilient infrastructure solutions within Microsoft Azure using Infrastructure as Code principles * Develop and maintain high-quality automation code to interact with cloud services APIs * Build, manage, and optimise CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for automated testing, validation, and deployment of infrastructure changes * Configure and automate Azure networking components and system management across Windows, Linux and containerised environments * Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, automation, and deployment pipeline issues * Serve as subject matter expert within multi-disciplinary DevOps teams, providing technical guidance and support to engineering teams * Collaborate with development, security, and operational teams to integrate infrastructure automation * Provide technical mentoring and guidance to digital community * Champion best practices for infrastructure automation, operational procedures, and security standards * Establish processes and standards that improve quality, stability, and operational maturity * Contribute to technology strategy, business planning, and award-winning continuous improvement initiatives * Drive adoption of automation solutions that make best practices the default choice across the organisation * Foster a DevOps culture that promotes team autonomy and engineering excellence * Engage in continuous learning to stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies * Evaluate and incorporate new technologies and methodologies **To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have:** * Proven direct experience managing and automating infrastructure within Microsoft Azure (covering both IaaS and PaaS). * Strong programming and automation programming proficiency using Python / TypeScript. * Experience managing both Windows Server and Linux operating systems in complex environments. * Solid understanding and practical experience with Azure networking services and concepts. * Understanding of security best practices for Azure cloud environments and secure programming. **It may also be useful to have:** * Experience using MS Graph and Azure SDKs and CLI for automation. * Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities for infrastructure and automation challenges. * Demonstrable experience applying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with Azure Bicep or ARM Templates. * Proficiency in building and managing CI/CD YAML based pipelines using Azure DevOps. * Strong practical Git skills for version control in a team setting. * Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration platforms like Azure Container Apps or Docker Swarm. * Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Shell (Bash). * Experience with configuration management tools, particularly Ansible. * Understanding of software development best practices (testing, versioning). * Experience with IT Service Management working practices and principals. * Experience with cloud monitoring, logging, and alerting strategies using tools like Azure Monitor and Open-Telemetry * Experience in hybrid cloud environments with traditional on-premises infrastructure. *We would also encourage applications from candidates who perhaps do not possess all the attributes and experience listed above but are competent with the majority and would be able to quickly develop the additional skills and experience required in post with our full support.* **In addition to a competitive salary and access to our profit share scheme, we offer:** * A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs. * A collaborative and encouraging work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged. * On site mental health and wellbeing assistance. * A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire. * Regular social activities, in addition to three days paid volunteering leave each year and a day's leave to celebrate your birthday. * Hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments -- with the expectation of two 'in-office' days per week. * A flexible working window, allowing colleagues the freedom to work flexibly between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
