How to make decisions the Stoic way

address129 Chesterton Rd, Cambridge CB4 3BA, UK

Description

**When the outcome is uncertain, what does it mean to make a good decision?** We make decisions every day. Some are small and routine, others are harder and stay with us long after we’ve made them. This month we will look at how Stoicism approaches decision-making, not as a way to guarantee the right outcome, but as a way to act with clarity and integrity when things are uncertain or uncomfortable.Instead of asking what will work out best, Stoicism encourages different questions. What is actually within my control here? What would acting well look like? What can I accept, and where should I apply my effort? We’ll explore how this way of thinking deals with pressure, emotions, regret, and situations where there is no obvious right answer. As Epictitus put it put it, “Don’t explain your philosophy. Embody it.” This discussion is open to everyone. You don’t need any prior knowledge of Stoicism, just an interest in thinking more carefully about how we make decisions and why.
