Job Description: We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Wind Tunnel Model Systems Engineer to join the Cadillac F1 Team at our new Silverstone Facility. In this role, you'll be part of a group supporting the development and integration of wind tunnel model systems and technologies. Principal Accountabilities: Design and development of wind tunnel model onboard systems and off-model systems directly related to data acquisition (e.g. metrology), including specification of components, testing and coordination with model design. Design, assembly and development of bench test rigs for system checking and setup both on and off model. Design and development of control and acquisition software for the wind tunnel model and any related rigs. Support the setup and calibration of model systems, instrumentation and rig installations. Project management of sub-projects. Support technical fault logging and resolution of issues on the electrical and electronic systems of the wind tunnel model and test rigs in a methodical and timely manner. Investigate and research new and novel technologies, techniques and methodologies for wind tunnel model systems including instrumentation, actuation, control, sensors and aerodynamic measurements as required to improve testing performance. Ensure the wind tunnel is delivering class leading quality and throughput in support of race car aerodynamic development. Record data and document experimental methods, configurations, and procedures with accountability for detailed and up to date documentation for all the developed and installed systems. Use and development of metrology solutions used within a wind tunnel environment, for example: Creaform, Leica / Polyworks. Work closely with aero development and performance engineers in defining and delivering upon requirements. Assist with the training of more junior group members Requirements Driven by performance What do you need to bring to the team? Proven experience in a similar engineering role, preferably within the motorsport industry, with extensive experience of wind tunnel model systems, sensors and testing facilities. Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical installations and assemblies, pressure measurement instrumentation and wind tunnel flow field and metrology systems. Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills. Experience of common industry communication protocols, for example: CAN bus, TCP, UDP, Ethercat, etc. Experience in operating test installations, machinery and safety critical equipment. Programming skills in one or more of the following would be an advantage: National Instruments Labview and C-Rio FPGA. Mathworks Matlab and Simulink. C/C++. Electronic PCB design skills would be an advantage. Good knowledge of data acquisition systems typically used in motorsport, for example: Pi Toolbox / Pi Diablo, ATLAS / System Monitor. Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Self-motivating, responsible and meticulous. Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture. To support the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of control systems for automated airport baggage handling systems. The Controls Engineer will ensure system functionality, compliance, and performance through the application of robust engineering, test, and configuration management practices. Requirements Key Responsibilities: · Control System Design & Development: o Develop and implement PLC-based control systems using Siemens TIA Portal, ideally including STL or another statement-based language. o Design and configure control architectures, including PLC, SCADA, SAC, and safety systems to meet functional and regulatory requirements. o Interpret and implement system requirements into technical control solutions. · Commissioning & Testing: o Conduct software and hardware commissioning of control systems for automated baggage handling systems. o Manage and execute detailed test plans, procedures, and documentation, ensuring traceability to requirements and standards. o Interface with automated baggage system equipment, OEM suppliers, and airport stakeholders during integration and commissioning phases. · System Engineering & Quality: o Apply systems engineering principles, contributing to the full lifecycle including requirements capture, design, development, integration, and validation. o Manage configuration control of control systems, software versions, and associated documentation in line with QMS protocols. o Ensure system safety compliance and support development of safety documentation for Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) and related processes. · Tools & Process Management: o Utilize Emulate3D for system emulation and validation. o Operate within formal requirements management and quality management systems (QMS) to ensure traceability and audit readiness. o Champion best practices in test management, version control, and configuration assurance. Required Qualifications & Certifications: · Degree or Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Electrical, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent experience). · Certified to perform supervision under industry and site-specific standards (e.g., ECS, SSSTS). · ISTQB Certification in software testing. · Siemens TIA Portal training or demonstrable project experience (preferred). · Airside pass eligibility and security clearance capability (for airport work environments). Skills & Experience: · Proven experience in the development and commissioning of PLC-based control systems, ideally in airport baggage automation. · Strong working knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal, with additional experience in STL or other statement-based languages. · Experience with SCADA systems, HMI development, and field I/O integration. · Familiarity with Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) processes, safety systems, and airport operational constraints. · Understanding of configuration management in complex engineering environments. · Experience using requirements and test management tools (e.g., DOORS, Polarion). · Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills. · Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams. Working Conditions: · Role may include a mix of office-based design work, on-site commissioning, and off-site testing. · Work at secure airport locations; must comply with airside rules and health & safety procedures.
