The Promised Land

The Promised Land is a 2023 epic historical (17th century) drama directed by Nikolaj Arcel, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Amanda Collin. Hugely well received and rated, this story about determination, love, ruthlessness and hypocrisy is extremely compelling, and majestically staged. It was titled "The Bastard" in Denmark (it's a Danish-Swedish-German co-production). (NB. We don't watch it together. We watch it and then meet, in person, to discuss it. Like a Book Club, but with films!)
