Steeped in history and folklore, these ancient woods were said to be haunted by Lady Hoby and inspired Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows. Rich in flora and wildlife, they provide a beautiful opening to our walk.\n\nClimbing to **Winter Hill**, we enjoy sweeping views across the Thames Valley before descending to the river. The path then leads us through meadows and marshland, past the ancient burial mounds of **Cock Marsh**, before arriving in the historic heart of Cookham village, famously described by Stanley Spencer as “a village in heaven.” Here we pause for lunch, with time to explore the charming streets, Spencer’s gallery, and Holy Trinity Church where the artist is commemorated, as well as a visit to a traditional pub.\n\nAfter lunch, we rejoin the **Thames Path**, widely regarded as one of the most photogenic stretches of the river. The route meanders alongside the water, skirting the edge of the grand **Cliveden Estate**, once a ducal residence and later the setting of the notorious 1960s Profumo Affair.\n\nOur hike continues along the river past **Boulters Lock**, a lively boating hub once popular with Victorian high society, before reaching **Maidenhead**. The finale is at Brunel’s magnificent **1835 railway bridge**, a pioneering feat of Victorian engineering and a fitting close to a day rich in riverside scenery, history and culture.\n\n🧭 **Guide:**\n• Leader: [BEA](https://www.outdooraholics.co.uk/MeetTheOutdooraholics.pdf)\n• Contact (hike day only): 07345 241215\n\n🍽️ **Food:**\n• Bring a packed lunch\n• Pub visit after the hike (drinks optional)\n\n🎒**What to Bring**\n• Hiking boots/shoes\n• Water (2 litres minimum)\n• Packed lunch\n• Waterproofs (jacket and trousers)\n• Hat and gloves if cold\n• Train tickets are arranged – just meet us at the meeting point\n\n⚠️ **Safety**\nYour guide is a trained hike leader and Outdoor Activity First Aider\n\n❓ **Want to Know More?**\n• [New to Our Trips?](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/new_to_our_day_hikes.pdf) (perfect for first-timers, answers “what to expect”)\n• [About Us](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/about_us.pdf) (who Outdooraholics are, credibility, history)\n• [FAQs](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/FAQ.pdf) (covers common queries)\n\n📲 **Explore More &** **Stay Connected**\n[Day hikes list](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/hikesbygrade.pdf) 👣\n[Calendar - All trips](https://www.meetup.com/outdooraholics/events/calendar/) 📖\n[Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/outdooraholics/) 📸\n[Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/Outdooraholics) & [Photos group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/Outdooraholics)\n\n📄 **Terms and Conditions**\nBy signing up or attending you agree to our [Terms and Conditions](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/TermsConditionsOutdooraholicsHikingUK.pdf)\n\n© Outdooraholics Hiking UK Ltd 2026 E & OE","price":"£31","unit":null,"currency":null,"company":null,"language":"en","online":1,"infoType":1,"biz":"community","postDate":"1766565058000","seoName":"beginners-hike-18km-wind-in-the-willows-woodland-river-photography-adventure","supplement":null,"author":null,"originalPrice":null,"soldCnt":null,"topSeller":null,"source":1,"cardType":null,"action":"https://uk.ok.com/en/city-high-easter/cate-travel-travel-partners/beginners-hike-18km-wind-in-the-willows-woodland-river-photography-adventure-6484032731507412/","localIds":"19","cateId":null,"tid":null,"logParams":{"tid":"5e906892-7a21-4993-8404-98408a6c83ea","sid":"2d0636bd-9417-448a-8463-e9169dc3ac5c"},"attrParams":{},"addDate":1766565057148,"categoryName":null,"postCode":null,"secondCateCode":"travel-travel-partners","kycTag":null,"pictureUrls":null,"isFavorite":false},{"category":"6503,6513","location":"The Piazza, 1-7 Covent Garden, London WC2E 8HD, UK","infoId":"6484032593689812","pictureUrl":"https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/1/8/7/9/highres_530466265.jpeg","videos":null,"title":"Saturday Night Party Social at STEREO in Covent Garden 🕺💃","content":"🎶 Get ready for an exhilarating night immersed in music, cocktails, and connection at the vibrant STEREO! 🌟 Join us for a memorable social event at one of London’s hottest nightlife spots, where the energy knows no bounds. Beginning in Dorking, we first follow a section of the ancient Pilgrims Way. While today it is a peaceful gravel track, in 1170 this route carried medieval pilgrims travelling from Winchester to Canterbury Cathedral to visit the shrine of Thomas Becket following his martyrdom.\n\nSoon, the trail climbs onto the North Downs Way, leading us into tranquil woodland paths with occasional viewpoints opening out across the surrounding landscape. The steady ascent is rewarding rather than strenuous, easing us into the rhythm of the walk.\n\nWe continue through West Hanger and Netley Park, where shaded woodland, birdsong, and winter wildlife create a calm and immersive atmosphere. These quieter sections offer a welcome contrast to the open ridges and invite a slower pace.\n\nOur lunch stop is at West Hanger, where picnic tables are available and there is the option to purchase a hot drink from the kiosk. It is an ideal place to rest, refuel, and enjoy the peaceful setting.\n\nRefreshed, we continue on toward Newlands Corner, a much-loved beauty spot offering panoramic views, a café, toilets, and open picnic areas. This is another excellent pause point to take in the wide Surrey Hills scenery.\n\nLeaving Newlands Corner, the path crosses Albury Downs before climbing steadily to St Martha’s Hill. At the summit, the historic hilltop church and sweeping views over the North Downs and Tillingbourne Valley provide one of the most memorable highlights of the day.\n\nFrom here, we descend toward Guildford across Pewley Down, a beautiful stretch of open chalk downland with far-reaching views and a real sense of space. It is one of the finest viewpoints along the southern edge of the North Downs and a fitting approach into town.\n\nOur journey concludes at Guildford Castle, where there is time to explore the historic surroundings, wander into the town centre, and optionally finish the day with a celebratory drink at one of Guildford’s welcoming local pubs.\n\n**✅ WHO CAN JOIN:**\n🧑🤝🧑 Adults aged 21 and over\n👶 No children\n🐾 No pets (allergies and phobias)\n\n📅 **RSVP POLICY**:\nPlease RSVP only if you can attend, and update your response if your plans change. From here our route leads into the tranquil woods and grasslands of the Kentish countryside, reaching **Shoreham** before following the **Darent Valley Path** into the heart of the valley.\n\nThe trail takes us into the beautiful **Lullingstone Country Park**, internationally important for its collection of ancient trees. Beech, ash, oak, sweet chestnut and hornbeam all thrive here, with some specimens thought to be over 800 years old. Emerging from the woodland, we arrive at **Lullingstone Castle**, set beside its peaceful lake, before continuing to the site of **Lullingstone Roman Villa** — a rare survival of a Roman estate house first built around 100 AD.\n\nFrom here we continue through rolling Kent fields, rewarded with views of the impressive **Eynsford Rail Viaduct**, its nine red-brick arches towering 22 metres above the valley floor.\n\nOur hike concludes in the charming village of **Eynsford**, where we explore the evocative ruins of **Eynsford Castle**, a Norman stronghold built in 1088. If you want wild traditional English Coast, this is a place to go to. Pebble beaches. swamps, surrounded by nature reserves, golf courses and manor houses, without the crowd of Brighton or Eastbourne.\nThis trip should be quite an experience, whether you like birds or not, being surrounded by flying owls is quite something and my number one favourite nature show so why not try it out?!\n\nI do recommend cameras and binoculars as you never know what surprise you can get in this magical place!\nWe will look for wildlife but the star of the day will be the short eared owls! If the weather allows, they can put up quite a unique show and will flight just a meter or two away, in some cases, not caring the least about any of us, so if you are a photographer or a birder, or want to witness something difference, this is your trip!\nOf course, it is nature, I cannot commend the owls to come out in the middle of the day but they usually do unless there is a lot of wind so we have got many chances to live the show from the front row seats\nThe area is a well known nature reserve with one of the largest.concentration of overwintering owls in the country, there were at least nine the last time I came so let's hope for some lucky day! We will walk along and will stop for photos whenever we spot one of those gorgeous feathery friends. See our quick safety tips:\n\nhttp://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/\n\n*What to bring*\n\n* Plenty of water, 1-2 litres recommended\n* Enough snacks and packed lunch to keep you energized along the walk\n* Extra snacks and an extra packed lunch just in case\n* Rainproof (ideally waterproof) clothing, sturdy shoes/boots you don't mind getting muddy\n\nFeel free to ask any questions in the comments section!\n\nIMPORTANT\n\nPlease bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes.\n\nAny trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no \"product\", \"service\" or \"package\" and also no \"tour guide\", \"operator\" or \"walk leader\".\n\nEach participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen.\n\nDespite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-)\n\nBy participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer.\n\nHere are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips:\n\nhttp://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/\n\nTRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE\n\nAlthough we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered.\n\nAs most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.","price":"Free","unit":null,"currency":null,"company":null,"language":"en","online":1,"infoType":1,"biz":"community","postDate":"1766564970000","seoName":"over-hills-of-ivinghoe-14-miles","supplement":null,"author":null,"originalPrice":null,"soldCnt":null,"topSeller":null,"source":1,"cardType":null,"action":"https://uk.ok.com/en/city-high-easter/cate-travel-travel-partners/over-hills-of-ivinghoe-14-miles-6484031625318612/","localIds":"19","cateId":null,"tid":null,"logParams":{"tid":"3c57c796-8195-4ad9-a541-c7f2ed04e609","sid":"2d0636bd-9417-448a-8463-e9169dc3ac5c"},"attrParams":{},"addDate":1766564970727,"categoryName":null,"postCode":null,"secondCateCode":"travel-travel-partners","kycTag":null,"pictureUrls":null,"isFavorite":false},{"category":"6503,6513","location":"Euston, Underground Ltd, Eversholt St, London NW1 2DU, UK","infoId":"6484031615462612","pictureUrl":"https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/0/c/e/highres_525637070.jpeg","videos":null,"title":"FREE Beginner HIKE Lord Rothschild's Tring Park, Grand Union Canal ","content":"This walk takes us into the heart of the **Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty**, beginning at **Tring Station**.
