Our Board of trustees governs the charity and directs how SS Shieldhall and the supporting organisation is managed and run on behalf of the members. This is an exciting time to join the Board of trustees with the organisation undergoing significant transformation in response to the anticipated future challenges in our external and internal environments. The trustees are formally elected for a renewable term of three years by members attending the Annual General Meeting held in April. The majority of the current Board members have been involved in the management of the organisation for some time and whilst willing to extend their appointment, they wish to invite applications from new trustee candidates who can contribute by helping to take the Charity forward through bringing new skills and experience to the Board. In particular, the incumbents of the following positions wish to stand down in the near future and applications are being sought from interested candidates. The normal term of appointment is on a three-year cycle from the AGM in April. The Board can co-opt candidates onto the Board at any time subject to formal endorsement at the next AGM. The organisation is classed as a small charity with income under £250,000 p.a. All Trustees, business managers and crews are volunteers. Our structure is based on a small size business which operates a working passenger ship that was built in Glasgow and launched in 1955. We welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds in line with our values of being inclusive to all. The Board recognises that having trustees with a variety of perspectives, experiences and skills can help to improve its effectiveness. The Board recognises that in addition to the technical and commercial knowledge and skills currently available certain new skills, knowledge and experience would be beneficial to maintain and develop the future success of the charity. Specifically, the Board wishes to encourage applications from candidates with active practical experience in areas such as marketing, financial management, learning and development.
