He was an English poet, writer, and broadcaster. He was Poet Laureate from 1972 until his death. He was a founding member of The Victorian Society and a passionate defender of Victorian architecture, helping to save St Pancras railway station from demolition.\n* We will then make our way to visit Camley Street Natural Park, which is a unique urban nature reserve. The site was once a coal drop for the railways, and is now managed by London Wildlife Trust.\n* We will then carry on via Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard into the Regent's Canal towpath, which was opened in 1816 and runs from Limehouse and Finishes in Paddington.\n* Alongside the canal's scenic route watch out for the bookshop on the barge as well as the Victorian gas holder that has been converted into a garden with a circular lawn and a polished steel pavilion (pictured above).\n* We will end our walk by the Ice Wharf (Wetherspoons), if we get lucky we might see the Camden Lock in operation.
