Methods is currently recruiting for a Senior Back End Developer to join our team on a permanent basis. This role will be based on-site. Role: We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Back-End Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Python and Go, with extensive experience in developing and maintaining robust backend systems. You will work closely with our front-end developers, data engineers, and product managers to build scalable and efficient applications that meet the needs of our users. Your role will involve designing APIs, managing databases, and ensuring the security and performance of our services. Requirements Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain efficient and reliable back-end systems using Python and Go. Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, WebSocket, and GraphQL services, ensuring comprehensive documentation with Swagger / OpenAPI. Manage and optimize databases, specifically PostgreSQL, NATS, Redis, and Min.IO. Leverage Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Functions, Azure KeyVault, Azure SQL Database, and Azure DevOps for cloud-based solutions. Implement robust security protocols using OAuth and KeyCloak. Utilize Git for version control, ensuring collaborative and efficient code management. Implement containerization and orchestration solutions with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm. Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps Pipelines. Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Jira and Confluence to track progress and share knowledge. Monitor and improve system performance with Prometheus and Grafana. Requirements: Essential: Proven experience as a Senior Back-End Developer or similar role. Languages: Python / Go / Java - the main code base is Go and we are transitioning the ingestion pipelines from Python and Azure Data Factory Messaging: NATS, Kafka and Azure Service Bus (AMQP). Databases: PostgreSQL Blob storage: S3 / Minio / Azure Blob Storage Other Azure services incl. Kubernetes / Key Vault etc. NiFi experience is a plus Knowledge and experience in the development of highly reliable and scalable systems. Desirable Demonstrated experience in developing and managing RESTful APIs, WebSocket, and GraphQL services. Solid understanding of database management, including PostgreSQL, NATS, Redis, and Min.IO. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services and cloud-based architecture. Expertise in implementing security measures using OAuth and KeyCloak. Experience with containerization and orchestration tools: Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm. Knowledge of CI/CD processes and tools: GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps Pipelines. Requirements Responsibilities & Requirements Elastic Stack Expertise: Demonstrable expertise across the Elastic Stack, particularly in the use of Kibana for creating advanced visualisations, dashboards, queries, and alerts. You must hold a valid Elastic Certified Analyst certification, with full working knowledge of the competencies it covers, including anomaly detection, dashboard tuning, and timeline analysis. Data Ingestion & Log Pipeline Engineering: Build, manage and optimise complex Logstash pipelines, utilising a wide range of plugins to handle diverse log formats, transform data, and enrich security telemetry. Ensure reliable ingestion of logs from both structured and unstructured sources into Elasticsearch. Syslog Configuration: Configure, manage rsyslog and configure centralised logging for network appliances, firewalls, and infrastructure components to ensure visibility and completeness of data collection. Linux Proficiency: Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based systems, with command-line fluency and scripting ability (e.g. Bash, Python) to support SIEM operations, log parsing, and agent deployment. Detection Engineering & Threat Rules: Develop and tune custom detection rules using ESQL, EQL, and Lucene syntax to identify malicious activity. Use MITRE ATT&CK-aligned techniques and contribute to the design of the detection roadmap. Create and maintain bespoke investigation guides to assist SOC analysts in conducting triage and escalation. SOC Maturity & Policy Development: Contribute to the development of SOC processes and policies, including detection logic lifecycle, alert tuning procedures, and SIEM configuration governance. Play a key role in maturing the operational use of SIEM tooling and automation within the SOC environment. Defence Writing & JSP Familiarity: Prepare formal documentation in line with Defence Writing principles, with an understanding of Joint Service Publications (JSPs), particularly in areas related to cybersecurity governance, incident response, and monitoring operations. Incident & Case Management: Support the incident response lifecycle through alert review, case triage, evidence handling, escalation, and forensic data support. Ensure cases are documented comprehensively and aligned with operational SOPs and client expectations. Client Engagement & Communication: Communicate technical information clearly and confidently to both internal stakeholders and external clients.
