Is this group not right for me?** 😨\nAttending for the first time is pushing you out of your comfort zone, so it is normal to feel anxious. The good news is you won't be alone as we always have a mixture of new and old faces. Regulars are very welcoming and it takes only 2-4 events for most members to feel settled in. Our advice is to give it shot and reflect afterwards if the event is right for you.\n\n**How will I find you?** 🧐\nOnce the organiser arrives, they will share in the comments roughly where we are located, with a description of what they are wearing. If the venue has table numbers, we will also mention them.\n\n**Is this a dating event?** 👩‍❤️‍👨\nIn short, this is not a dating event. Despite this, we also recognise and accept that relationships do form in social settings. God has been the first and most important Thought Police in our lives.\n\n**Part 1**\nThe fact that all of the above may not quite wash with us in this new millennium is the subject of tonight’s talk and suggestions are invited as to:\n\n1. What makes us behave, comply and obey?\n2. How relevant is the religious control of our morals today?\n3. What alternatives can be discussed as a viable and effective way to control society?\n\n**Part 2**\nThe terms \"morals\" and \"ethics\" are sometimes used interchangeably in everyday conversation, but they denote distinct concepts. Whilst morals are personal principles of right and wrong, ethics are codes of conduct that members of a group, society or profession agree to follow.\n\n1. Do ethical considerations simply add to our individual moral values in determining what we consider to be the right or wrong thing to do?\n2. What happens if ethics and morals clash? (For instance, a journalist's code of ethics may require them to protect the anonymity of their sources whereas their own moral code may tell them that they should be honest and name those sources.)\n\nThese and other points are encouraged in tonight’s discussion bearing in mind, as always, the philosophical recommendations of our debates embodied in the four Cs outlined below..\n\n***\n\nAnyone can attend this session. Occasionally, attendees will be asked to watch, read or listen to a short piece of material in advance of the session (as the 'stimulus' for discussion), but this will be minimal and will be made clear in the description of the session.\n\nWe ask for donations of £1 per session from those who can afford to pay to cover the costs of the Meetup subscription. Circular.\n\nA chance to explore some Cotswold countryside close to the edge of Oxford with a number of features including the views of Blenheim Palace from Blenheim Park and a chance to enjoy the pretty town of Woodstock for a lunch break and its Festive Fayre.\n\nBlenheim Palace was designed in an English Baroque Style and was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.\n\nLunch and Finish\n\nPlease bring a packed snack lunch and water for the walk or you could get a some food at Woodstock (lunch break is short, 40 mins so please keep food options simple).\n\nThis is a medium hike with undulating terrain.\n\nTransport & meeting\n\nMeet outside Hanborough Train Station for walk to start after the train from London arrives at 10.53am.\n\nThe 9.50am from London Paddington gets to Hanborough for 10.53am. If you want to meet for groupsaves suggest meeting close to the WHSmith at Paddington (see photo below) at 9.20am to give yourself time to get tickets.\n\nReturn train fare is £30 super saver return with a network railcard or about the same price with a groupsave of 3 or more (must travel back together with groupsave).\n\nThe organizer is coming by train from High Wycombe and not London so will meet the group at Hanborough.\n\n£7 cash payable on the day guided walk & meetup costs.
