




To support each child resident in Spruce Cottage as part of a multidisciplinary residential team by creating a safe, nurturing and therapeutically responsive environment which meets their individual needs. To contribute to the development and fruition of therapeutic plans and their agreed intervention strategies in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and relevant external professionals. It will be a requirement of this post to be registered with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC). Shifts are 12.5hours and include day shifts and waking night shifts. Key Responsibilities: * To embrace and uphold Sprucewood's vision, mission, ethos and values throughout employment with the organisation. * To provide daily care and protection for the children resident in Spruce Cottage to include supporting them with daily living tasks. * To contribute to the multi-disciplinary assessment of the children's needs, informed by your specific discipline, and the development of appropriate therapeutic plans with the team to meet such needs. * To understand the origins, nature and function of the children's trauma based behaviour and to employ key agreed interventions, in line with their therapeutic plan, to support children when they present with high risk behaviours. * To understand the potential impact that trauma based behaviour presented by the children can have on self and to commit to, embrace and actively participate in supervision and team reflective practice in an effort to bolster resilience and professional practice in line with Sprucewood's supervision policy. * To participate in and actively contribute to team meetings, children's meetings, core group meetings, care planning meetings/ Looked After Review meetings and any other meetings as required. * To co-ordinate, support and assume a facilitation role in some meetings when requested, for example, children's house meetings. * To act as key worker for a child when requested; to support the child by making efforts to build a trusting and supportive relationship; to take responsibility for co-ordinating all aspects of the child's Therapeutic Plan in line with their Statutory Care Plan and Placement Plan, to include working closely with other disciplines, providing reports when requested and engaging the child in sessional activities as required. * To provide monthly written reports in respect of any child they hold keywork responsibility for. * To assist in facilitating personal education plans for young people and ensure that recreational and leisure activities are organised and facilitated in line with their Therapeutic Plan. * Contribute to the accurate maintenance of appropriate records, particularly those detailing observations and/or assessment of the children and those required to comply with statutory requirements and Sprucewood's policies and procedures and provide professional reports as required. * To take necessary steps to advise management of any matters of concern in relation to the protection and/or safeguarding of the children, including any concerns regarding the behaviour or practice of other staff. * To commit to and embrace ongoing professional development opportunities and to participate in staff training programmes as required to enhance insight, awareness and understanding of the complexity of developmental trauma and attachment difficulties in children and other areas of training need. · To work within Sprucewood's policy and procedural guidelines. · To assist in the daily care and protection of any animals within the home and willingly and accurately support and facilitate therapeutic plans which incorporate animals. · To maintain professional registration with NISCC. And the children it supports. **Essential Criteria** Criteria 1 Professional qualification in Social Work. AND Experience of working with children who have experienced developmental trauma. Criteria 2 Ability to work on your own initiative and within time constraints, ability to make informed decisions in a responsible and accountable manner in line with organisational policy and procedures. Criteria 3 Willingness and ability to engage in reflective and reflexive practice and embrace the process on continuous learning at individual and team level. Criteria 4 Ability to cope with the presentation of persistent trauma based behaviour and be resilient in managing the intensity of this dynamic. Criteria 5 Have the confidence to respond quickly to changing high risk environments in an informed and professional manner in line with agreed plans. Criteria 6 Ability to be flexible; willing and able to adapt to changing circumstances, shift patterns and expectations. Criteria 7 Ability to engage in effective communication within a multidisciplinary setting and a willingness and ability to collaborate with other disciplines to ensure the needs of children are met and therapeutic plans engaged effectively.
